Garry Sandhu belongs to Rurka Kalan, a village near Goraya Disst. Jalandhar, Punjab, India. By birth, his real name is Gurmukh Singh. He learned Kavishri under the guidance of Gurdeep Singh at the age of thirteen. In childhood, he used to sing religious hymns on festivals along with his friend Jaggi.

He was not good at studies and always run away from his school. Even he did not succeed in the 10th standard and never wish to study again. He was good at football playing. In the year 2002, Garry left his studies and came in influence with an immigrant agent.

He went to England when he was around seventeen. He worked as a labor, then after 2 years Garry started working as a salesman. He incorporated a major portion of his investment in building his Music Career.

Sandhu belongs to a middle-class family and his parents were not financially well sound. That’s why they were not able to support him. He went to England to earn money to support his family. But he never wanted to live in England and always wanted to return back to India.

Garry Sandhu debuts his music career with a single song Mai Nhi Peenda Han Diye Tera Ishq  Peonda in 2010 and then next song “Sangdi” in 2011. He sang several hit songs in 2013 such as Kina Tenu Karda Ha Pyar, Chetu Aunda along with the collaboration of Dr. Zeus. Garry also sang other songs like Tere Wargi, Chunni de Sitare, YouTube, Janija and Jigraa. His one of the most famous Punjabi songs Ego, released in 2014, also became a hit sensation on the web. He released all his Punjabi songs, since 2013 under his own label- Fresh Media Records. His other hit Punjabi songs Mere bare, gallan sachiyaan, bappu, jaanu,  tadap and one touch also received great appreciation. He started his acting career with the film titled Romeo Ranjha, which was released in 2014.

Sandhu has struggled a lot for almost around eight years to become a successful Punjabi singer. After his debut song in 2010 Garry released his four songs in England. In first album, Sandhu himself penned down seven songs. He has also written his popular song “ik tera sahara mil je data” when he was planning to come back from England. Garry loves to give his soulful voice to sad and emotional songs and also a very good song lyricist. Now, he only sings his own written songs. An incident inspired him to write his own songs. Once he hired a lyricist to write a song for him, that lyricist took the money but refused to write a song for him. Garry was irritated at that time and pledged to write songs on his own. His music career is inspired by famous Punjabi Singers Gurdas Mann, Satwinder Bugga and Babbu Mann.

Controversies

In October 2011, it came into reports that Garry had been arrested at UK Border Agency. He was alleged and taken into custody and sources revealed that Sandhu was living in the UK on an illegal basis. He was taken to custody at the Detention Center and was reported to be deported to India after releasing from custody. But, Sandhu refused to this rumor at a talk show- Broken Silence on Brit Asia TV.

But, in mid-December in 2011, it was officially reported by the media that Sandhu had been deported back to India to his hometown. Garry has been seen posting on his Facebook wall revealing how much he misses his life in the U.K. In a Radio chat show, his dear friend and famous rapper Roach Killa revealed that he would do everything to bring Garry Sandhu back to England.
